5. Bloodborne

FromSoftware’s exciting take on the adventuring genre with Dark Souls, and its sequel was intense. My first time adventuring Dark Souls was left with frustration, desperation, and anger as I set it aside only to bring it out again and find the secret hallway to escape the fight… I was in, I spent the next 40 plus hours gruelingly grinding away at some of the most challenging gameplay of my life. And I loved it. I never gave the sequel a chance because I keep my ears close to the ground, and I knew something special was coming with PS4.

And it is coming. It is a PlayStation 4 exclusive being called: “Dark Souls with Shotguns”. You’re a traveler seeking a cure to an illness. And in your trip to this mythical town of Yarnahm you find it is wrought with destruction and an illness of its own. Now trapped, you fight your way through, to survive. Hidetaka Miyazaki is on lead for this one and has favored a gothic look for this adventure, exclusive to the PlayStation 4. You have access to a sidearm and a weapon that evolves as you play depending on the situation. After hearing of a Dark Souls release for the PS4, I’m excited to have a new friend in FromSoftware.

Bloodborne - March 24th 2015, Only on PlayStation 4.

4. Elder Scrolls Online

Tamriel Unlimited

cover-new_edited.jpg

At a time when the world is evolving in all aspects of gaming, the biggest western RPG franchise Elder Scrolls went online. With a pay-2-play model that left some wanting more, and others feeling just satisfied. And then there were those of us who already had other great games with great content, which was free. I could spend my money how I wanted to in the game, but I never had to pay a subscription. But I heard of a console version as well, and I knew I was going to have PlayStation 4, the wait was on. I have yet to experience this game outside of beta on PC almost two years ago. And as time went on, I was enthralled at the features the game to offer, but I noticed something. And as I reported a while back, Tamriel was going free-2-play. Finally accessibility for everyone. And now it made sense how a company could justify charging for a game monthly when we already paid for online service… They weren’t.

Now we have our chance to see what Tamriel has to offer. June 9th 2015 in a special edition that is being finalized for consoles as you read this. It will include update 6 to the game which introduces the Justice System which allows murder, thievery, bribery, pickpocketing, etc. A major jump into an online realm, but I will carry a sharper blade. And less money in my pockets. The visuals have been amazing so far in early footage, and many gamers are rebuilding the hype train to get back on the tracks. We have a confirmed pay model, a confirmed street date, and now if only I can convince Zenimax to send me an early copy, that’s a stretch…

Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited coming on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC; June 9th 2015.

3. Final Fantasy XV

ffxvbanner_edited.png

The biggest hype train of the entire last decade. A game that was announced long before we ever got to know Lightning of Nova Crystalis, and now Versus XIII has become XV. And we finally have a release date “range” since Square-Enix never sets solid dates until last minute. Were used to it. But the footage that has been shown on this game has been amazing. Clearly pushing the limits of new technology and then some. The battles are in real-time as usual, but graphically look as if they are happening as cut scenes. Fact is, it is common these days for a game to use cut scenes with real-time game footage. It helps limit load times and staggering in the gameplay.

Another big notice in this version is the desire to bring back the “open-world” gameplay that made the early 3-D Final Fantasy’s, like VII-IX on PlayStation, so popular. The world is much more grounded as well, with use of cars and airships abound, not that airships are a fantastical thing, just a Final Fantasy staple. Elaborate monsters, elaborate hair, its Final Fantasy all right. And it seems like the longer we wait, the more the anticipation sets in for what could be the one game I loose myself in the longest this year… Oh wait, I just got Type 0 HD; does this mean I get two Final Fantasy experiences in the same year! YES!

Final Fantasy Type 0 HD releases on PlayStation 4 March 17th 2015.

Did I mention some copies will have a demo for Final Fantasy XV?

Final Fantasy XV has a tentative timetable as of this writing as “Fall 2015”

Although Square-Enix confirmed 2015 for sure. “Holiday” anyone?

I smell mine in wrapping paper…

2. Metal Gear Solid:

The Phantom Pain

The Solid Snake Amiibo was finally revealed a couple weeks ago as this big hulking red hand. Snake’s hand, well Boss’s hand right? Oh man I’m so confused. Which is why after playing, and currently owning, the entire “Solid Canon” I can tell you that I am most excited to have my questions answered. I really get the feeling we see the process in which Big Boss is created, it makes the most sense to me… In which case, do we get to finally bridge the gap?! YES! Kojima has stated that this will be in fact the last “Solid” in the series.

And it will be the last.

After the patch fetch quest riddled with story that was the ridiculously over-priced prequel Ground Zeroes, I was ready for the full ticket. So I preordered my new Amiibo for Solid Snake, or is it Boss… Anyways and I have already hyped out the trailers, and footage, and even bought the joke t-shirts at E3, haha Kojima. Now lets see this masterpiece.

September 2015. On PlayStation 4 in special edition with the Amiibo, or just the game.

1. No Man’s Sky

maxresdefault (1)_edited.jpg

no-mans-sky-gallery-04.jpg

With the ambitious projects of 2015 award looming on the horizon like a time-gate waiting to take you to Nulbarus XII, No Man’s Sky by Hello Games is for sure a front-runner. With a special 64-bit coding key, there is capability to create a “procedurally generated open world” which you can explore freely and is full of near 18 million planets capable of adventuring. You will have your own character and spaceship to upgrade, edit and control for your own. Although the limits are as of yet unknown. The hype for this game is clearly built on the idea of being able to explore something that otherwise wouldn’t exist without the power of the PlayStation 4, to later be released on Microsoft Windows platform… What does that tell you about hardware? More on this one as time goes by, currently listed as 2015.
