Retrospective

For what was once the bloodiest game in history, has become one of the most legendary of the arcade scene in the 90's due to the popularity of the realistic effects and vigorous competition the game bred. Featuring dozens of characters, which varied if you played any console versions, and every major move was there.
Series mainstays like Jax, Sonya Blade, Skorpion, Sub-Zero, Lui Kang, and more entered the battle. Throwing kicks, tossing uppercuts sending you skyrocketing into the air, only to slam brutaly on the ground if your opponent didnt link a hit or two first. The vicious style of this game bred true competition, with repricutions.
It isnt know if the developers wanted the blood to mean something or not. However, I always took it as my reminder that I was human afterall. And everyone bleeds.

So when the game needed to end a match, it took no shock to anyone that there will be blood... And Mortal Kombatants would use a technique known as the "Fatality" to "FINISH" their opponent. And even the savage and cunning Kombatants would use the environment to their advantage to only make things worse. It appears our friend Syrax up there just obliterated someone, call C.S.I. and tell Gibbs to get on ID'in that body...
When it was announced a few years back that Mortal Kombat was being redone by a studio helmed by Ed Boon himself, the world was in a frenzy, they wanted to see what was to come of the revival of a franchise. Well we saw, and some of have been playing it for years now. We don’t need Call of Duty, we need Fatality. For those of us who are DC Comic’s fan, we had our hands distracted with a similar formula, but featuring our favorite characters of that realm as well. The next step was of course, Mortal Kombat 10, or “X” as it is known. Ed promised us bigger and better, and oh my do we have it.
In what is seen as a continuation of the story from MK9, set somewhat 20 plus years into the future. This game features many new characters from all sides. Including featured offspring of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, Cassie Cage; in addition to Jax’s daughter, Jacqui Briggs. There are others as well, 24 characters in total. The gameplay obviously will include a story, as it was mentioned continuing 20 plus years into the future. Nether Realm, and Outworld are somehow involved.

So Skorpion, have you been eating you wheaties?
The returning modes; Ranked, Survivor, King of the Hill, and fan-favorite “Test Your Luck”. The new content involves the Faction Wars, which is a gameplay scenario where you join a faction. There is Brotherhood of Shadow, Special Forces, Lin Kuei, Black Dragon, and White Lotus. This choice aligns you with an online competition winning points for your faction. These points will help you level up, and earn faction-specific rewards. The biggest attention however has come from the evolution of the previous ladder systems. “Living Towers” is a new system where the towers or ladders, change approximately every hour. Constantly changing the options and characters involved throughout the day.
As you spend time earning those Koins to use in the evolved Krypt, you will notice some changes to the HUD and the game itself. Starting with the ability for characters to change stances, which can change fighting styles, weapons, and specials. As in the case with Scorpion, who has the ability to shift into the Hellfire Stance which makes many of his moves include additional power due to fire.
You will also see X-Ray moves make a return, which are brutal to say the least. Speaking of Brutal, in addition to the return of the ever-popular fatality, we have a new form of the Brutality introduced. A move combination which is executable near the end of the fight which results in “brutal” executions. There are also Faction Kills which are faction-based Fatalities tied to your faction of choice.

See that big yellow spot on my chest? I ate Skorpion for breakfast...
With all of these options presented to use in addition to whats expected of PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Graphics look amazing. Sound quality is expected to be awesome. We know the trailers have been. DLC is already firing up as those who preorder the game get Goro as an unlockable character. But enter Jason Vorhees. Oh yeah, MK9 had Freddy, now we have Jason. And 3 other characters including Predator, and a couple others. So go to your local Game Store, and check out what you can get, I have even seen cool t-shirts in some stores in addition to multiple versions of the game. The special edition includes a neat statue of Scorpion and the Season Pass. Not bad for your money.
